Is This for You?

It’s normal to wonder whether a space like this is right for you.

Many people arrive here feeling curious, cautious, hopeful, or unsure — sometimes all at once. You don’t need to have clarity or confidence to keep exploring. Wondering “Is this for me?” is a reasonable place to start.

This Might Be For You If…

  • You want conversations to feel less tense or draining
  • You care about relationships as much as your beliefs
  • You are curious about how others think, even when you disagree
  • You want structure and support in difficult conversations
  • You prefer listening and learning over debate

This Might Not Be For You If…

You’re looking for:
  • Debates or persuasion
  • Proving others wrong
  • Fast agreement or clear winners
  • Spaces where one viewpoint dominates

You're Not Alone

Maybe you want to reach a family member you avoid talking politics with, but don’t know how to do that without tension.

Or you’re tired of hearing filtered or caricatured versions of “the other side” and want to hear directly from real people instead.

Or maybe you’re simply wondering whether it’s still possible to talk about difficult topics with curiosity and respect — without things falling apart.

If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Many people come to Crossing Party Lines feeling these same ways.

Still not sure? Take our short Conversation Navigator Quiz to explore what you want from conversations across differences and decide whether Crossing Party Lines might offer something useful.  It’s 2 minutes and there is no commitment.

CPL 200: Moral Foundations in Political Conversation

Moral Foundations Theory provides a useful framework for talking politics.

We begin by discussing each of the six foundations and getting a taste of how they can manifest differently in different people.

This leads to exploring some of the tensions intrinsic within the foundations themselves, which opens the door to moving from the moral/immoral dichotomy to an appreciation of how interacting with people who are differently moral to us leads to a more nuanced view of any issue and eventually to better solutions.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn to recognize the moral underpinnings of your own views
  • Listen for indications that one or more of the six moral foundations is at play in a political discussion.
  • Bring morality into a discussion in a non confrontational way
