Spread the Word

If CPL has been meaningful to you, one of the simplest ways to support the work is to let others know it exists. While sharing is optional,  we offer a few ways to spread the word, if and when it feels right.

Why Word of Mouth Matters

CPL is built on relationships, not algorithms.

People are more likely to explore conversations across differences when they hear about them from someone they know–a friend, a colleague, or a community member — especially in a time when political discourse can feel overwhelming or unproductive.

When you share CPL, you’re not promoting a viewpoint. You’re offering an invitation to connection. 

Ways to Share CPL

Share an Event or Workshop
  • Send a link to an upcoming event or workshop.
  • Invite someone to attend with you.
  • Share an event with a book club, faith club or community organization.
  • Mention CPL in a casual conversation
  • Share what you appreciated about a discussion or a workshop
  • Describe CPL as a place for listening not debating
  • Tell your local library, civic group or community center about CPL
  • Suggest a partnership or hosted conversation
  • Connect CPL with organizations focused on community building
  • Follow CPL on social media
  • Share an event or resource post
  • Forward a CPL newsletter to someone who might be interested

Sample Language You Can Use

If it helps, here are a few neutral ways people often describe CPL:

  • “I’ve been participating in conversations with Crossing Party Lines. They create structured spaces for people with different views to talk respectfully.”
  • “This group focuses on listening and understanding, not debate or persuasion.”
  • “I found it refreshing to have a place where disagreement didn’t turn into conflict.”
  • “You don’t have to agree with anyone — it’s more about learning how to talk and listen.”

Feel free to adapt these in your own words.

What Sharing Is and Isn't

Sharing CPL:

  • Is an invitation, not a pitch
  • Is about offering a resource, not convincing anyone
  • Can be as small or as visible as you choose

Sharing CPL is not:

  • An obligation
  • A requirement for participation
  • A request to persuade others

Your involvement already matters.

CPL 200: Moral Foundations in Political Conversation

Moral Foundations Theory provides a useful framework for talking politics.

We begin by discussing each of the six foundations and getting a taste of how they can manifest differently in different people.

This leads to exploring some of the tensions intrinsic within the foundations themselves, which opens the door to moving from the moral/immoral dichotomy to an appreciation of how interacting with people who are differently moral to us leads to a more nuanced view of any issue and eventually to better solutions.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn to recognize the moral underpinnings of your own views
  • Listen for indications that one or more of the six moral foundations is at play in a political discussion.
  • Bring morality into a discussion in a non confrontational way
